Thousands set to protest against Brexit as political crisis deepens

One million join anti Brexit march in London demand new referendum

Theresa May responded to the petition when it had only hit 3 million signatures earlier in the weekend, with a spokesman saying the prime minister "will not countenance" revoking article 50.

The country will be divided whatever happens and it is worse to be divided on a lie.

According to some reports, May could try to get her deal over the line by offering to resign if MPs approve it, which could win over some Brexit hardliners.

A reported one million people took to the streets of London today to push for a second Brexit referendum, with the event bringing out what could be the most extensive and creative collection of placards you'll see all year.

The Sunday Times newspaper reported that 11 Cabinet ministers - nearly half of her senior government ministers - are to confront May with an ultimatum, urging her to quit in return for support for her Withdrawal Agreement. Nobody knew what they were voting for at the time, so I think it should be put back for another vote.

"To be talking about changing the players on the board, frankly, is self-indulgent at this time".

Amid the chaos, it was unclear if or when May would bring the divorce deal she agreed with the European Union back to parliament.

May was reportedly told by MPs including Rees-Mogg that in order to drum up enough support to pass her deal through the Commons she would have to indicate that she was willing to let another prime minister lead the next phase of the Brexit process.

Following a request by Prime Minister Theresa May, the European Council agreed on Thursday, March 21 to extend the UK's departure date to 22 May 2019, provided the Withdrawal Agreement is approved by the House of Commons by March 29, 2019 at the latest. And then the pressure on the Prime Minister to heed the protesters will increase. If she fails, Britain will have until April 12 to offer a new plan or decide to leave the European Union without a treaty.

Watson is expected to promise to back May's deal if she agrees to hold a referendum on it.

May refused to give up on her deal passing eventually, noting that the alternatives were unpalatable to her and that there was no evidence of a majority in parliament for anything except the principle of avoiding an abrupt "no-deal" exit. Article 50 is the exit clause in the European Union treaty.

Concern over a "no-deal" Brexit had loomed over the United Kingdom leading up to the extension, as Parliament had twice rejected the prime minister's proposals in stunning defeats; the latest was 242 votes for, 391 votes against.

"The government and the prime minister is in charge", Barclay said.

Michael Gove, who is [3.95] favourite to be the Next Conservative Leader, and May's de-facto deputy David Lidington [14.0] are both being talked about as temporary replacements for May. Fellow Conservatives and pro-Brexit lawmakers, including Boris Johnson, met with May at her country residence, Chequers, on Sunday.

She survived a vote of no confidence at the end of last year, which means she's safe from a leadership challenge until December, but bettors anticipate a second vote of confidence in the government this year [1.33].

Yes. They are known as amendments. However, he wasn't the only one to do so; there were continuous calls for May to step down from her post during Saturday's protest.
