Spotify Is Planning to Ban Users Who Use Ad Blockers

Spotify takes aim at ad blockers - GSMArena.com news

Users' acceptance of the new terms "will be deemed to have been granted if you continue to use the Spotify service after the effective date", the company said.

Spotify is on one of its most important turning points.

Spotify has been sending warnings to users who are being caught for blocking ads.

Spotify updated its terms of service today, and the new terms of service states that those that are using ad blockers to block the ads that Spotify shows to those on the free service, will be banned from the platform. If you use an ad blocker on the streaming service, you should stop, or you may be banned from the service. "The following is not permitted for any reason whatsoever: circumventing or blocking advertisements in the Spotify Service, or creating or distributing tools designed to block advertisements in the Spotify Service", the new terms say.

"We take the artificial manipulation of streaming activity on our service extremely seriously", the spokesperson told DigiDay.

In March, The Verge reported that 2 million users were dodging ads with certain blocking apps and accounts. Spotify began to control by disabling such accounts when it detects any abnormal activity.

Spotify is like any other company, with the need to make a profit. This is to help off-set the cost of the service, since these users are not paying for it. That means 1,235,000 users are using ad blockers forcing Spotify to pay for songs they streamed even though they didn't get paid for them.

Last week, the company had announced that it was going to acquiring Anchor and Gimlet Media which produce podcasts such as Reply All and Crimetown respectively.
