ESPN's Adnan Virk Fired, Accused Of Leaking Confidential Information

Adnan Virk

After an internal investigation, ESPN not only concluded that Virk was the source of the information for Awful Announcing, but also when given the chance to admit that he was, Virk was, per The Post, "not forthcoming" when given mulitiple chances to say so. The specific nature of the information Virk chose to share is unknown at this time.

Andrew Marchand of The New York Post reports that Adnan Virk is out amid accusations of leaking corporate information to the media. Virk was reportedly escorted from the building and fired on Friday.

In its report Monday, The Post says Virk is pursuing legal action against ESPN, adding that he now is receiving no severance after recently signing a four-year contract worth seven figures.

As Virk's online profile highlights, he had become an nearly ubiquitous presence at ESPN, including the network's college football, Major League Baseball, and college basketball coverage.

Rohit has proved to be an astute captain in the T20Is and has led India well in the past in the absence of Kohli. Notably, India had won the ODI series that followed the T20I series by a comfortable 3-1 margin.

Virk's leak was considered premeditated, and more severe, because he had alerted the reporter about the meeting before it took place. The questions matched what appeared later that day in the Awful Announcing article.

Virk declined to comment on the incident, as did a spokesperson for ESPN. ESPN has a policy against sharing confidential information with reporters. He also developed a podcast, Cinephile, that focused on movies.

One of ESPN's rising stars is no longer with the company and his dismissal is turning into a story about the leaking of confidential info that could result in a lawsuit.

Per his ESPN bio, Virk joined ESPN in 2010 and had filled a number of roles for the company. Virk gained eight years of experience in Canada, starting out with TSN in 1998, where he was an associate producer for Sportscentre.
