Amazon to build its own cloud gaming service

Amazon is reportedly building a game streaming service to rival Google and Microsoft

The Information got the scoop, reporting on two independent sources who are close to the plans that state that Amazon is developing a cloud gaming service.

Amazon is speaking to publishers about bringing their games to its streaming platform, which apparently could launch in 2020.

The most noteworthy game streaming service that already exists is the underwhelming Playstation Now.

Suffice it to say that video game streaming is likely the next step in gaming, and with as huge a company as Amazon joining the ranks, expect the industry to hit full throttle. Google is also working on its own version of video-game streaming service called "Google's Project stream service" which offers a convenient and easy-to-use gaming environment.

Even if this rumor was true, Amazon wouldn't be the first to roll out such a service.

The woman's mother, Katrina Cesena, told reporters she is sleeping in her daughter's hospital room until the perpetrator is found. And the tribe issued a statement saying that they are working with Phoenix police on this case, and the family has a lawyer.

Streaming services have always been cited as part of gaming's future, initially alongside standalone consoles, earning vocal support from the likes of Rockstar and EA. Furthermore, it often lets them stream a whole selection of games for a fixed price, rather than buying one $60 game at a time.

As the Information noted, a successful streaming platform could upend the long-standing business model of the gaming world, in which customers shell out $50 to $60 for a Triple-A title.

The games are instead hosted on cloud servers, and streamed over the internet, which means you don't need a powerful computer to play high-end games - or you can use a phone or tablet too. Amazon has Prime TV, which demonstrates that the company is rooted to streaming already, and a similar infrastructure in its AWS-cloud based storage service, is already used by some developers including Ubisoft and Sega.

Meanwhile, Google started testing a cloud gaming service under the name of Project Steam, with a limited number of users.

It's hard to know outright what Amazon is doing in the games space. However, Amazon has not yet confirmed the news.
