NYC Mayor Announces Health Care Coverage For All New York City Residents

'NYC CARE': Mayor De Blasio to Unveil 'Free Healthcare' for Uninsured New Yorkers, Cost $100M

Former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen warned New York City residents of "skyrocketing" public costs after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced his plan to insure all residents for free, regardless of immigration status.

Mayor Bill de Blasio cited his "socialistic impulse" in describing an ideal world where New York City government has control over all land and building development in his city.

"We'll put the money in to make it work; it's going to save us money down the line", de Blasio said on MSNBC. It provides no health coverage for residents traveling outside of the city, officials said at the news conference.

The plan isn't an individual insurance plan or a single-payer health program such as the Medicare for All plan touted by progressives.

"As property taxes continue to rise at an unprecedented and unsustainable speed, impacting homeowners and renters alike, Mayor de Blasio continues to look for ways to spend their hard earned money by placing a heavier burden on the hardworking taxpayers of this city", said Republican Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who challenged de Blasio in the last election.

NYC Care, which will be launched in the Bronx borough in the summer of 2019, will expand across the entire city by 2021 and cost at least $100 million annually, according to a statement from the mayor's office.

The recently re-elected Democratic mayor of the country's largest city announced on MSNBC Tuesday the government will pay for any and all resident's comprehensive care, including those who aren't eligible to receive comprehensive Medicaid coverage. "They're still a part of our community, they need health care, their families need health care".

It will also guarantee health care access to those ineligible for insurance, including illegal immigrants who live in NY.

It's expected to take two years for NYC Care to be implemented.

"Under NYC Care, 600,000 New Yorkers, including our undocumented brothers and sisters, will have access to healthcare", declared Winnie Wong, founder of the advocacy group People for Bernie. As a result, they end up in the emergency room for complaints great and small, typically receiving care for a problem that's become much more serious during the wait. First we're getting you your health care. We want people to have primary care, specialty care.

"Health care isn't just a right in theory, it must be a right in practice".

Health care, De Blasio announced, is now a "right" for anyone who gets sick in NYC. "We're already paying an exorbitant amount to pay for health care the wrong way when what we should be doing is helping them get the primary care". "Then we're working out the finances".
