Hyundai Elevate Concept Is a Four-legged Walking Robocar From the Future

The desin is modular so siffent cabins could be mounted on the chassis

Hyundai previewed an idea it has for a giant "walking" auto with a very small model of it at CES in Las Vegas.

What's more, the concept, which was developed in conjunction with Sundberg-Ferar, is based around a modular EV platform that allows different bodies to be switched and swopped when needed. Elevate extends its expandable robotic legs for omnidirectional motion. Hyundai is calling it the Elevate concept which is a radical four-legged vehicle and has redefined Hyundai's statement of mobility. It combines the technology found in electric cars and robots, allowing it to travel across hard terrain, debris, stairs and places typical off-road vehicles can't reach.

Furthermore, the legs can fold up into a stowed drive mode, where power to the joints is cut, allowing the Elevate to drive at highway speeds.

Hyundai sees this capability as useful in multiple situations, but perhaps most importantly as a first responder vehicle in situations such as forest fires, earthquakes, hurricanes or floods.

Each wheel is powered by an electric motor, and they can be braked to work as feet as the vehicle walks either like a reptile or mammal, depending on the situation. The design is uniquely capable of both mammalian and reptilian walking gaits, as shown in the video. We are talking about the Hyundai Elevate concept showcased at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2019.

If we lose the next one this doesn't mean anything. "The performance was beyond anything I've ever witnessed today". After after the break, Leroy Sane's shot cannoned off the other post of the same goal and went in for the victor .

Industrial design firm Sundberg Farar has been working with Hyundai Cradle on Elevate for the past three years.

It can climb a 5ft wall, step over a 5ft gap and achieve a 15ft-wide track width - all while keeping its body and the passengers inside it completely level.

It says the Elevate could be used to reduce disaster response times by making it easier for emergency vehicles to get through the rubble of collapsed structures. For example, people living with disabilities that don't have access to a ramp could hail an Elevate that could walk up to their front door, level itself, and allow a wheelchair to roll right in.

"By combining the power of robotics with Hyundai's latest EV technology, Elevate has the ability to take people where no auto has been before, and redefine our perception of vehicular freedom", said David Byron, design manager, Sundberg-Ferar.
