FEMA Chief Brock Long: Florence Performing 'Exactly as Predicted'

The Latest: Outer rain bands approaching N. Carolina coast

FEMA similarly directed all questions to the DHS inspector general's office.

"I'm very aware of a recent article in regards to an ongoing investigation by the OIG in regards to FEMA vehicle usage", Long said.

Misuse of government resources has come back to haunt past Trump administration officials. His office will play an integral role in the government's response to Hurricane Florence, which is now affecting the Carolinas. Seems Long has taken the 800-mile round-trip drive many times, spending 150 days of weekends and days off in North Carolina since he was hired in 2017.

FEMA's James Joseph said even with all of its assets, there are limits to what it can do.

CNN has reached out to FEMA.

If the Bengals can find a way to string their good moments together, they certainly can make some noise in the AFC North. Here are five quick takeaways after the game, which evens the Ravens record at 1-1 heading into a mini bye weekend.

At a FEMA briefing on Thursday laying out the administration's plans for response to Hurricane Florence, Long told reporters in response to the Politico report, "Right now I am 100 precent focused on [Florence] and that's exactly where our attention needs to be from the standpoint of the life safety missions".

Long reportedly began having a government driver take him home since he took control of FEMA a year ago. Long and Nielsen reportedly regularly clashed over the FEMA director's travel habits- a reoccurring theme among Trump officials - and his consistent absence from the office in Washington, D.C., due to his frequent travel home to North Carolina. "If we made mistakes with the way a program was run, then we'll work with OIG to get this corrected".

Nalepa added that Long was now focused on FEMA's work "preparing for, responding to, and recovering from Hurricane Florence and other active tropical systems". "Doing something unethical is not part of my DNA and it's not part of my track record in my whole entire career".

According to Politico, one of the government vehicles Long used, a black Suburban, was involved in a wreck, prompting the IG to look into the matter. The administrator's trips home to North Carolina have also drawn the ire of his boss, DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who reportedly confronted him about them this summer.
