Serena Williams into Wimbledon semifinals for 11th time after Giorgi battle

Serena Williams rallies to reach Wimbledon semifinals

USA player Serena Williams serves against Italy's Camila Giorgi during their women's singles quarter-final match on the eighth day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, southwest London, on July 10, 2018.

Williams, asked whether she's felt any pressure during this tournament, said, "This is only my fourth tournament back". "To be here. To be in the semifinals". I mean, I always say I plan on it, I would like to be there, have these goals.

"It wasn't any surprise I just kept fighting". I don't feel I have to win this; I don't feel I have to lose this.

"I'm equally happy if I would have won all the matches in four sets. But I feel like I'm back".

Cibulkova did her best to try and hang on but the Slovakian was left chasing shadows as Ostapenko blasted a backhand victor on her first match point to reach the last four without dropping a set in this year's tournament.

That is going to change now.

Kiki Bertens dumped out the last of the top 10 seeds in the women's draw with a straight-sets defeat of Karolina Pliskova to reach her first Wimbledon quarter-final.

Williams never was anxious about losing. But the 36-year-old Williams, back at Wimbledon after missing last year when she was pregnant with her first child, dug in, upped her game and reeled Giorgi in.

"I faced a thousand and three seeds in my life, so I'm okay", she said. "I'm doing a lot of the right things".

Kerber came out on top in a spectacular 25-shot rally to force match point number seven and finally got the job done as Kasatkina netted a forehand, the German a relieved 6-3 7-5 victor. It's the first time making it to the final eight at any major for Giorgi and Goerges.

Trump also blamed recent terrorist attacks there on Khan, who is Muslim. "I think they agree with me on immigration ", Trump said. Trump has been getting around by helicopter to avoid the protests in central London. "I just want the people to be happy".

"After the first set, I was like, 'All right, let's go three sets.' And that's kind of what I thought".

Facing Williams on top form is a daunting task for any opponent, but Goerges may feel emboldened after the way she rallied to see off Bertens.

It did not even matter that her fellow seeds would avoid her in the draw, given their exodus but it was the unseeded Giorgi that presented her biggest challenge to date. She was the runner-up at the All England Club in 2016 and a semifinalist in 2012. She advanced Monday with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Belinda Bencic and will next face Daria Kasatkina of Russian Federation.

On her own serve Rodina was tossed about the court like a rag doll.

Angelique Kerber, seeded 11 and now the highest-ranked player left in the tournament, beat Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-3 7-6 (7/5) and will meet Daria Kasatkina, who ended Alison Van Uytvanck's run with a 6-7 (6/8) 6-3 6-2 win.

She served for the victory at 5-4 in the second set, but got broken.

Serena steadied from there though, breaking serve for the first time and then going on to level the match.

With two players that possess as much firepower, especially on serve as the Czech and the Dutchwoman, there didn't figure to be a lot of break chances, but it was Bertens who had the first opportunity.

Kiki Bertens gave the 29-year-old German all she could handle, before Goerges eventually triumphed 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

She lost only four points on it in the opening set, all of them in the sixth game when a courageous Giorgi rifled a backhand deep into enemy territory to snatch a break out of nowhere, setting the Centre Court crowd abuzz.
