SUPREME SHOWDOWN: Democrat Says Colleagues Will 'ANSWER TO HISTORY' if Kavanaugh Confirmed

President Trump nominates Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court during an event in the East Room of the White House in Washington

That's all the support Kavanaugh needs to be confirmed.

Ironically, though, the same Republican lawmakers calling for a swift confirmation pledged to do anything they could to keep President Barack Obama's Supreme Court justice nomination, Merrick Garland, from getting a hearing in 2016, arguing that the decision should be left to the next president. With Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., receiving cancer treatment in his home state, Republicans need all 50 Republicans, plus Pence as a tiebreaker, to confirm Kavanaugh, assuming no Democrats join them. "We did prepare a press release in advance because we knew that all the people on Trump's nominee list would strip protections for nearly every marginalized group in the United States for years to come".

Already, the two are sharpening their cases against Kavanaugh. "The girls on the team call me 'Coach K'". He passed over other finalists who attended law school at Michigan, Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, the nation's largest environmental group, said Kavanaugh "continually and reliably sides with corporate polluters and the wealthy over the public's right to breathe clean air and drink clean water".

Kavanaugh even name dropped Justice Elena Kagan in his remarks. Leipold, an expert in criminal law and procedure, was a consultant, and Kavanaugh was an associate counsel and a co-author of the report laying out the grounds for Clinton's impeachment.

That insider status can help Kavanaugh win over the Washington elite and secure enough Senate votes to avoid an embarrassing loss for Trump. "I think that there is a process - that process needs to be fair, it needs to be open". That is not what Kavanaugh wrote. "But I believe that the President should be excused from some of the burdens of ordinary citizenship while serving in office". Kavanaugh also noted that Roe vs. Wade applies to undocumented minors.

Raj Shah, the White House spokesman handling questions about Kavanaugh's nomination, did not immediately respond for comment.

Republicans have little margin of error for the final vote unless a few Democrats can be brought onboard.

Robert Mueller reportedly is among those who believes a president can not be indicted when in office. The issue may eventually come before the Supreme Court, where Kavanaugh's view of the CFPB could prevail.

As a member of Ken Starr's staff, Kavanaugh pushed for an aggressive prosecution of President Clinton. Indeed, many commentators have argued that the president "outsourced" the decision to the Federalist Society entirely. Despite his religious affiliation, in 1992 Kennedy provided the crucial fifth vote in the case Planned Parenthood v. Casey, reaffirming the legal framework laid out in Roe v Wade.

Wildfires have razed 7,000 acres of forests and farmland, Israel says. "There will be other steps which I won't detail", he said. The shuttered Kerem Shalom crossing is Gaza's main conduit for trade - albeit under years of Israeli restrictions.

McConnell told reporters that Kavanaugh's confirmation should be complete by the time the Supreme Court's new session begins in October.

Did not Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once question Roe V. Wade?

Not a low-energy Bush staffer.

The one would-be justice who would have brought a more diverse background to the court was Harriet Miers, a Texan with a law degree from Southern Methodist University and a close association with President George W. Bush.

Most Democrats don't like the Kavanaugh nomination and would like to see a more moderate nominee.

What were the Democrats thinking? Still, Leahy doesn't talk as though Senate confirmation is a done deal.

There are five Democrat senators who are up for re-election in November.

Rights groups in the United States have sharply criticised the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, warning that the appointment of President Donald Trump's pick would reverse hard-earned civil liberties for African Americans, women and other groups. "I've never seen a president act as though the Supreme Court has to be a wing of the White House instead of an independent branch of government", Leahy said in an interview Tuesday.
