"Alien Life Payload?" NASA's Kepler Spacecraft Downloads Exoplanet Science Data

Launched in 2009, the Kepler Space Telescope's mission was to search the galaxy for exoplanets.

NASA said that the Kepler team was notified that the fuel tank of Kepler is running very low.

NASA revealed on Saturday, July 7, that the Kepler Space Telescope is nearly out of fuel and that the space agency made a decision to put the spacecraft in hibernation-like state. NASA has placed the spacecraft in a hibernation-like state in preparation to download the science data collected in its latest observation campaign. This will be possible only after a few weeks, so the last remnants of fuel are saved for the last stage of operation of the probe.

Since May 12, Kepler has been on its 18th observation campaign, staring at a patch of sky towards the constellation of Cancer it previously studied in 2015. The data from this mission will help astronomers to confirm previous exoplanet candidates, as well as find any new candidates.

As to how data will be beamed back to Earth, it is a lot more than just a simple over the air data transfer. Now, their priority is to use the remaining fuel for getting the data back to Earth.

The report explains that Kepler must turn its large antenna toward Earth and wait for the allotted Deep Space Network time to transmit the data. The 19th observation campaign is scheduled to start on August 6, but before that on August 2, Kepler will be brought out of its low power mode.

World's oldest colours shed light on mystery of life on Earth
Other recent studies, however, indicate that there was enough oxygen around for 1 billion years before complex life emerged . The first animals, which are either sponges or some sort of comb jelly , didn't appear until roughly 600 million years ago.

Wales unveil Warren Gatland's replacement
The 55-year-old former Fiji boss will be the 23rd man to lead Wales since David Nash was appointed head coach in 1967. Gatland steps down after the 2019 World Cup and fellow New Zealander Pivac has always been touted as his successor.

Launched in 2009, Kepler was the first planet-hunting mission of its kind.

NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley manages the Kepler mission and follow-up K2 mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate. Refueling the spacecraft is not an option; Kepler orbits the sun, not Earth, and it's now millions of miles from our planet. "Interestingly, Kepler used the pressure of the sun to maintain its gaze, 'like a kayak steering into the current", says Sobeck, reports the UK's Daily Mail.

During its mission, the Kepler suffered multiple issues.

But scientists now know that its life is coming to end very soon. The planets come in all sizes and shapes and range from Jupiter like big and weird sized planet that orbit a binary star system to the ones that are closer in size and orbit to Earth.

The ultra-sensitive CCD sensors making up the Kepler Space Telescope's camera are created to look for the slight dimming of a star's brightness that might indicate a planet passing in front as viewed from Earth.
