Navarro exacerbated bilateral tensions between the US and Canada on Sunday when he criticized Trudeau for double-crossing President Donald Trump.

In the lead-up to the G-7 summit, Trump engaged in a war of words with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had both condemned the US president's decision to impose steep tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from the European Union, Canada and Mexico.

However, Navarro says he used inappropriate language in trying to convey that message.

At an event hosted by the Journal, Navarro said he had made a mistake, according to the newspaper.

Korea officials in final summit preparations
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as the summit and the recent positive developments in the Korean Peninsula. He thanked Singapore's organisation of the summit as if it was "their own family affair".

Following Trump's departure from the G7 summit, Trudeau said in a press conference that he told the US president that his steel and aluminum tariffs were "kind of insulting", that Canada "will not be pushed around" and that it would not hesitate to impose retaliatory measures. Donald Trump unleashed a Twitter tirade against Trudeau following the G-7 summit in Charlevoix, Quebec, calling him "dishonest and weak". "But you know, Trump threatened tariffs on steel and aluminum, and everybody said, 'Oh, well, you know he's not going to hit Canada, we're not a security threat.' And lo and behold, look what happened". President Trump withdrew from the communique in a fit of rage on Saturday. The Trudeau government has proposed a $16.6-billion tariff package, in retaliation for the Trump administration's decision to impose 25 per cent import duties on steel and 10 per cent on aluminum.

Trump continued with his tweets overnight, railing against countries that he said have trade surpluses with the United States, even as he was preparing for a crucial one-on-one summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in Singapore. "This is about our economy and millions and millions of jobs". "We just shook hands!"' Mr. Trump said. Among other things, she said the government should be preparing to keep pace with corporate tax cuts and tax breaks south of the border.

Trudeau reiterated that his nation's retaliatory tariffs will go into effect July 1.

That official and others said U.S. governors, state officials and lawmakers have a strong appreciation of the benefits of trade with Canada. The big question Canada and the European Union must answer for themselves, now, is whether Trump is an unfortunate temporary anomaly, or merely the first in a coming succession of "America First" presidents. "The wounds will heal, but the question [is] how does the relationship get impacted?"

"We will continue to conduct our diplomacy the Canadian way, that is, being positive and constructive and firm in defending the interests of our industries.in diplomacy it doesn't really matter about personal feelings and personal comments", said Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne when asked about the apology.
