Mom Shares Urgent Warning About Tick Paralysis

A tick bite led to the 5-year-old becoming paralysed

A five-year-old girl in MS temporarily lost the ability to walk after she developed "tick paralysis", a rare condition caused by tick bites.

Jessica Griffin from MS said her 5-year-old daughter, Kailyn lost the ability to walk and talk after contracting tick paralysis.

Jessica Griffin says her daughter couldn't walk after she was bitten by a tick.

The La Grande, Oregon, woman posted a video on Facebook, hoping family members or friends could help figure out what was causing the girl's sudden odd ailment.

Kailyn has now fully recovered and "hasn't slowed down since her feet hit that floor this morning", Griffin posted to Facebook on June 7. Lindsay says that even people in urban areas should check their body for tick bites if they have been outside for a while.

"I was just thinking that her legs were asleep until I noticed that she couldn't hardly talk", Ms Griffin wrote. "After tons of blood work and a CT of the head UMMC [University of Mississippi Medical Center] has ruled it as tick paralysis!"

Griffin followed up with a photo of her daughter walking out of the hospital later that evening.

Some analysts ask whether the United States could now flip North Korea to its side and away from China. He called the drills " provocative ", and said ending the exercises will also save the USA money.

Kailyn was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Centre and was able to walk out of hospital after receiving treatment. She included two photos in her post, which were the tick in Kailyn's head and the removed tick in a plastic bag. It's more common in children than it is adults! "We are being admitted to the hospital for observation and we're hoping her balance gets straightened out!" she wrote. Kailyn woke up and couldn't walk!

Staff at the University Medical Centre of MS discovered a tick embedded in the girl's scalp that had caused her temporary paralysis.

As it progresses it becomes harder for the victim to move her face or tongue.

The American Lyme Disease Foundation states that it takes five to seven days for a person to develop tick paralysis symptoms. If nothing is done, the toxin ultimately makes it impossible for a person to breathe, resulting in respiratory failure.

Here is more about how and why ticks can cause paralysis and worse.

Mom at first thought that maybe Kailyn had slept in an awkward position and her legs had gone numb, according to a Facebook post.
